VC-backed companies
What VC-backed companies are worth: combined enterprise value over time — split by ownership, country or founding cohort — the largest rounds of the year by sector, and category leaders for twelve segments per geography.
What the capital built
Combined enterprise value of every VC-backed company founded since 1990 and still operating — the stock that the funding flows above accumulate into. Companies keep counting after they list, so the total holds ARM, Spotify and Adyen alongside Revolut and Mistral.
Combined enterprise value
Enterprise value as it stood at the end of each year; the current year is to date.
Where the value sits, by company size
The same combined enterprise value as a Marimekko, as it stands today. Each column is a valuation bracket — pre-unicorn (under $1B), unicorn ($1–10B), decacorn ($10–100B), centicorn ($100B–1T) and gigacorn ($1T+) — its width set by the enterprise value of the companies in it, and its height split by where those companies are based. The company count under each column is the other half of the story: the widest columns are also the emptiest. Group the heights by country or by continent.
Combined enterprise value by valuation bracket
Valuation as it stands today, not at a past year-end. Companies without a valuation are excluded, so this total is the valued part of the population above.

Twelve segments, ranked by total VC raised, enterprise value or revenue. Pick a geography — where its top company leads the segment worldwide on the selected ranking, the row is marked Global #1.
Methodology. All figures are live from the Dealroom database, with companies assigned to the geography of their headquarters unless a founding-location basis is selected. Enterprise value is the latest Dealroom valuation per company — the last disclosed or estimated valuation for private companies, market capitalisation for listed ones — summed over every VC-backed company founded since 1990 and still operating. Valuation history starts in 2010, so the over-time charts begin there. Category leaders offers three rankings inside twelve curated Dealroom segment tags: total VC raised, latest Dealroom valuation ("enterprise value") and latest annual revenue. All three count startups only; the valuation and revenue rankings additionally require at least $50M of VC raised, which keeps never-VC-funded incumbents that carry a segment tag (Airbus, Aselsan) out of the tables. A segment is hidden for a geography with fewer than three companies carrying the ranked metric, and "Global #1" marks the company that leads its segment worldwide on the selected ranking.
