Partially reusable MIURA launchers for small-satellite access to space MoreLess
PLD Space is a Spanish launch company developing partially reusable rockets for small-satellite orbital and suborbital access. Founded in 2011 in Elche by Raúl Torres and Raúl Verdú, it flew MIURA 1 in October 2023—the first private European company to launch a rocket—and is commercialising MIURA 5, a two-stage vehicle targeting up to about 1,000 kg to LEO from French Guiana, with proprietary engines and manufacturing and test sites in Spain and Guiana. In August 2026 ESA awarded PLD Space a €158.9 million European Launcher Challenge contract to scale MIURA 5 cadence, performance and reusability toward MIURA Next; separately in September 2026 it extended Series C by about €108 million ($125 million) led by Mitsubishi Electric with COFIDES, Endeavor Catalyst and Spain Oman Private Equity Fund (MCH), taking Series C to roughly €288 million and total equity raised near €488 million.
