Fault-tolerant neutral-atom quantum computers aiming for utility scale MoreLess
Oratomic is a Pasadena, California-based quantum-computing company building fault-tolerant, utility-scale quantum computers that use lasers as optical tweezers to trap and control individual neutral atoms. It was founded by Caltech-linked physicists, including CEO Dolev Bluvstein. Public team and research collaborators include Manuel Endres,Hsin-Yuan Huang,Andrei Faraon, and John Preskill. The company argues that its neutral-atom architecture, combined with ultra-efficient quantum error correction, can deliver useful error-corrected machines with roughly 10,000–20,000 qubits, far fewer than many competing roadmaps. It says it has experimentally demonstrated core components at a smaller scale, and deliberately skips selling noisy intermediate-scale products to focus on end-of-decade utility-scale systems instead. In July 2026 Oratomic raised a $300 million Series A co-led by ARCH Venture Partners,Spark Capital, and Khosla Ventures, with Bezos Expeditions,Index Ventures,General Catalyst,Lowercarbon Capital,Bain Capital, and others. Vinod Khosla called it his firm's largest initial investment yet.
