Amdocs

In 1982, deep within an Israeli phone directory company named Golden Pages, an idea was born. The founders, including Morris Kahn, Boaz Dotan, and Avinoam Naor, recognized a need for specialized billing software for phone directory companies. They launched a company called Aurec Information & Directory Systems to market this product. A pivotal moment arrived in 1985 when Southwestern Bell Corporation acquired a 50% stake, and the company was rebranded as Amdocs. This partnership provided a crucial early client and significant funding. Just two years later, the founding Aurec Group sold its remaining shares for nearly $1 billion. This set the stage for Amdocs to expand beyond directories and into the broader wireline and mobile telephony markets. In June 1998, Amdocs held its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange, fueling a new era of growth. The company embarked on a series of strategic acquisitions to build out its portfolio, moving into customer relationship management (CRM) and managed services. Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Amdocs consistently acquired companies to enhance its capabilities in areas like billing, network automation, and digital services. Today, Amdocs is a major player in software and services for the communications, media, and financial sectors, publicly traded on the NASDAQ.
